David Abbott, our first International
Studies major, class of 2001. David took an individual travel experience
to the Ukraine in summer 2000 assisting in orphanages for a charity.
In spring 2001 he attended with Dr. Lewis a conference on political consultancy
at Harvard University (see left, below), then wrote his multidisciplinary
and topical capstone project on globalization. He is interested in teaching
high school while pursuing a master's degree in history, at AUM.
In 2001 he was taking grad courses in Public Administration and Non-Profit
Management at AUM. In 2006 he (with wife Cynthia) was selling a house
in Brimingham and writing for a magazine.
David was married in 2003 to Cynthia McCary,
who has a master's degree in deaf education and has worked as a teacher
at the Alabama School for the Deaf in Talladega and as an interpreter.
Their first child, Nathaniel David, born Jan. 2007, and their second child,
William Logan, is due in August 2008.
David has an MPA (public admin) from AUM,
and a brief exposure to law school, before working since 2005 as business
editor/journalist for Hatton-Brown Publishers, which involves frequent
domestic and global travel, and opportunities to use his "somewhat limited"
Spanish, Russian and German language skills. "Knowledge of poli sci, government,
international relations and economics," he writes "comes in handy."
-After having spent a few years in Birmingham,
David and Cynthia are now (2008) back in the Montgomery area for the time
being so the kids can be close to family.

Chad Hobbs, class of 2001, came from Robertsdale to read for the major in PSC. He is also a leader of Sig Ep fraternity, and had second major in Religion and Philosophy, earning Honors. He participated in the USAFA conference at Colorado Springs in February 1999. In February 2000 and 2001, he spoke on theories of justice to the LAS 102 course in the chapel. In summer 2000 he worked on Democratic judicial and political campaigns while researching philosophy. He wrote his capstone project on myth and ritual in American politics, and won places in several law schools including 'Bama. At graduation he wore several lanyards representing honors and service. Chad also demonstrated that our tiny program can achieve MFT scores among the highest 3% in the nation!
Chad made law review in his second year at
'Bama Law, and graduated in '04, passed the bar at the first attempt and
took a position with a civil defense law firm in Birmingham.

Woo-jung Lee, class of 2002, came from South Korea to the PSC and Communications majors. She participated in the USAFA conference at Colorado Springs in February 2000. In summer 2000, she conducted individual research into political theory. She wrote her capstone on the media and the presidency, and won graduate study places at Monterrey Institute, SUNY Albany and Emerson College in Boston for political communications. She opted for the Fellowship at Monterrey, CA -- after a summer internship in London with the British Conservative party. (She arrived just before they lost a landslide election to the governing Labour party.)
In 2003 she returned to the US for further graduate studies in the leading school at UC San Diego.

Jared Lyles, class of 2001, came from Fairhope to the PSC major. He was also a leader of Sig Ep. He participated in the USAFA conference at Colorado Springs in February 1999. In November 1999 he participated in James Carville's American Association of Political Consultants conference in Baton rouge, LA. In February 2000 and 2001 he also spoke on theories of justice to the LAS 102 freshmen and faculty in the chapel. A former class president and basketball team member, in spring 2000 he won the Alabama capital internship and worked for Governor Siegelman on legislative liaison. While doing this, he kept up his coursework at night and by correspondence. A law firm intern in Fall 1999, in summer 2000 he worked for the Democratic party. In spring 2001 he again worked for Gov. Siegelman's staff, this time for the chief of staff. He wrote his capstone project on theories of pluralism in American politics and won places in several law schools including 'Bama. At graduation he wore numerous lanyards representing honors and service.
Jared made law & psychology review in his second year at 'Bama Law, graduated in '04, married and passed the bar.
In 2005, Jared set up his own firm in Silverhill, AL, in Mobile County. Based in a victorian house on five acres, he worked on lawsuits emerging from the property repairs and sales in the aftermatch of hurricane Ivan.

Carrie McDonough from Mobile, class
of 2001, PSC major. She was an active member of AOP and was a finalist
in Miss Huntingdon. In November 1999 she participated in James Carville's
American Association of Political Consultants conference in Baton rouge,
LA. In February 2000 and 2001 she also spoke on theories of justice
to the LAS 102 freshmen and faculty in the chapel. In spring 2001
she represented the college at a conference on middle eastern policy at
the US Air Force Academy -- which led to her capstone project.
At homecoming '04 she revealed theat she
is a real estate salesperson, taking her exams. She sells valuable
beach properties at Gulf Shores, and began work just as hurricane Ivan
hit the beach.

Dan Ogle, class of 2001, our first Public Affairs major in Politics, History and Communications, and member of Sig Ep, was an awesome forward on the basketball team, class president and SGA president. In short he was one of the best known campus leaders. At graduation (right) he wore numerous lanyards representing honors and service. He won several places in law schools, including 'Bama, Cumberland, University of Tennessee, and a full ride at Mississippi College of Law. He chose 'Bama.
Dan made law & psychology review
in his second year at 'Bama Law, and graduated in '04, soon admitted to
the bar. He worked for a Montgomery law firm, Webster, Henry &
Lyons, P.C., before moving to another firm in Birmingham. Dan returned
to HC in '05 and '08 to discuss careers in law with current students.

Angela Graham Dupree '01, in education and history, excelled in several PSC classes and is an honorary member of the Public Affairs club. In February 2001, she attended the Air Force Assembly on middle eastern policy.
